On September 17th, Eric Pizana, Executive Director of Inside/Out Youth Services, talked about Inside/Out and shared his personal coming out story with the students of Community Prep, a local charter school in Colorado Springs.
The following day, Richard, a member of Inside/Out Youth Services’s youth leadership group, Proud Empowered Advocates for Queers (PEAQ), had the wonderful opportunity of visiting with Community Prep. Richard led a discussion with the students on basic LGBTIQ Terminology. Check out the link to view our list of LGBTIQ Terminology.
In addition, Richard conducted a powerful activity, Coming Out Stars, to create empathy of what it is like to be accepted or rejected during the coming out process.
The impact of these speaking engagements allowed for students to meet LGBTIQ members of their community, learn about Inside/Out Youth Services, discuss ways of not being a bystander when they witness bullying taking place and to gain an understanding of the coming out process for queer individuals.
